Cairns Great Barrier Reef

Cairns Great Barrier reef locations include the Southern Reefs, Flynn Reef and Moore Reef.

We also include the Northern Reefs, including Norman Reef, Hastings Reef and Saxon Reef.

Next, head to Port Douglas to explore Agincourt Reef, Opal Reef and the Ribbon Reefs.

Then book a trip to explore one of our beautiful sand cays from Cairns Upolu Cay and Michaelmas Cay.  From Port Douglas, spend a wonderful day on Low Isles.

Visitors choose several reef pontoons, tropical islands, outer barrier reef day tours and liveaboards.

This reef is a fantastic location to learn to scuba dive, with the two world leaders in scuba diving, PADI and SSI, available.

Next, Mike Ball Dive Expeditions leave Cairns weekly to the Cod Hole and the Coral Sea for the die-hard scuba divers.

Scuba diving and snorkelling are prime in this location, and the bonus to being much closer to the outer barrier reef.

Most reefs are within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Green Zones.

Green Zones make up about 33 per cent of the Great Barrier Reef.  This reef is a no-take area, and extractive activities like fishing or collecting are not allowed without a permit.
